Back to the roots

Kokan – The coastal beach area is my home town. I belong to this lovely place.

Last week I was there in the many Villages of Kokan and loved every bit of it.
The red brick walls, cow dung floor and the huge patio with a big wooden swing hung right in the middle. With abundant betel nut, coconut, jack fruit trees and big wells at the back courtyard. And variety of hibiscus flowers accompanied by assorted flowers of different shape and color adorned the courtyard. It was all beautiful.

Life is very simple here. With no technological advancement you are touched by the simple way of life. Not even for second did I miss my Cell Phone, TV, laptop or other gadgets. On the contrary here the villages are in dark most of the time. After seven there is hardly anyone on the roads. For every little thing the areas are separated. Till date people here work as per the pre defined norms based on their caste and creed. Like only the Gardner would take care of the flowers for the god while Gurung (Caste) would take the responsibility of cleaning and the Brahmins would perform the rites. No one dares to cross their limits. Here they do not lock their houses doors are kept open 24*7 with no fear.

In all it was a wonderful experience. An opportunity to witness the other side of life, I enjoyed the bullock cart rides and fetching the water from the well, getting the hot water by burning the coconut leaves and many such lil things A feeling of contentment with few disturbing facts. For me it was a mirror of good and healthy way of life.

A complete rejuvenating experience!!!!
